Gabriel Rusu is a cartoonist, graphic designer and set designer who was born on August 24, 1969, in Sărmașu, in Mures county. At the age of 14, he settled in Târgu-Mureș, where he graduated from a high school with a sculpture profile, and then to attend the Tîrgu Mureș University of Arts, the scenography section. From the age of 4 he started drawing, talent inherited from his father. The first cartoon was made during the gymnasium trying to satirize his colleagues and teachers. The first publication that publishes his cartoons is Gazeta de Mureș. Mureșene, Express Journal, Mureș Information, Gazette de Mureș, Total Information, Day, Romanian Magyar Szo, Forest and Life, Daily, Of Corso. Many of his cartoons have been published in newspapers and magazines abroad. In addition to the cartoon, the artist has proven his skills in graphics for book covers, comics, advertising graphics, posters and calendars.
In 2001, Gabriel Rusu was the author of the graphic presentation of the Festival of Contemporary French Dramaturgy "Face à Face", organized by the Tg-Mureş National Theater, the French Institute in Bucharest and the French Embassy in Romania.
In 2004 he started a monthly cartoon magazine entitled "Passepartout" together with the journalist Mugur Gorea, at that time correspondent of Mureş of the newspaper Cotidianul, and in 2005 he became president of the International Passepartout Satirical Graphic Show in Targu-Mures.
Gabriel Rusu is an artist with an enviable track record, participating in dozens of international caricature exhibitions and salons, in over 25 countries on 5 continents.
Beginning with Poland, Croatia, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Italy, Slovakia, Portugal, Macedonia, Sweden and continuing with countries such as Turkey, Syria, Mexico, India, Korea, Japan and China, the artist has represented Romania with all the meridians of the world.
This year, Gabriel Rusu won the 1st Prize in the XXVI edition of the International Contest of Satire and Humor in Trento-Italy 2018 edition, the comic section, a prize with weight in the cartoon world.
Gabriel Rusu is an exceptional cartoonist, with an incredible sense of irony, who manages to express and outline the satire in a simple and relevant way. skillfully swings between the cartoon of gag, hail as appearance and content and the press, closer to the graphic, more metaphorical, less caricature in line and more polysemic in the message.
