The exhibition of Omar Zevallos in the ECC-Belgium

Omar Zevallos was born in 1958. He lives and works in Lima (Peru) and studied biology and journalism. He is working as a graphical humourist, cartoonist and journalist.  He had exhibitions all over the world, and his artworks have been awarded in many international cartoon contests. Omar illustrated numerous books for children and is also author of several non fiction books.

Already as a child he spends hours looking at the magazines that were in the house, looking for drawings, cartoons and illustrations, thinking how wonderful it would be to draw like the great masters. During many hours he was drawing like crazy, trying to see beyond the image and discovered that he could, that when he joined a good dose of humor, things flowed almost naturally.

He dedicated his life to caricature art and graphic humor, in combination with his professional career as a journalist. He participated a lot in international cartoon contests and won many prizes. But Omar is convinced that the most important prize is that one that gives you the satisfaction of doing what you like.

The caricature began to be a real object of research and analysis and became the major activity of Zevallos. He describes it as follows: "It is a difficult art because I do not seek to exaggerate only the physical features of the characters, but to enter into their personality and capture their essence. That is for me the true caricature."

For more than 40 years Omar Zevallos has drawn hundreds of characters and the exhbibion and catalogue is only a sample of his work. This exhibition is called "Caricatour" because it travels around the world and today it is the first time these works are exhibited in a solo exhibition in Europe. Zevallos: "I am so proud on this exhibition in the European Cartoon Center in Kruishoutem, it is a real honor for me. It is my first solo exhibition in Europe and I like to thank the organizers for the recognition of my work."

You can visit the exhibition of some 130 drawings in the ECC from 7 July till 22 September 20
