Tabare Gomez Laborde
artistically known as Tabaré ( La Paz , Canelones , Uruguay ; August 21 , 1948 - Turdera , Buenos Aires , Argentina ; July 4 , 2023 ), was a Uruguayan cartoonist, humorist and cartoonist , author of comics , cartoons and book illustration, and known especially in Latin America for his strip Diógenes y el Linyera, published without interruption since 1977 in the Clarín newspaper of Buenos Aires .
Biography
Born in the city of La Paz ( Canelones department ) in Uruguay. Self-taught cartoonist, he went through various work activities until he joined an advertising agency in Montevideo , work that would define his professional career.
He also drew for the Montevideo magazines: Despegue (1971), La Chacota (1972), La Bocha (1972) and Noticias (1976). Starting in 1969, he began to publish works in the Argentine media , the country where he has lived since 1974. He worked with various screenwriters such as Héctor García Blanco, Aquiles Fabregat , Jorge Barale , among others.
He died in Turdera , Lomas de Zamora , at the age of 74 on July 4, 2023 of pancreatic cancer.
Comic strips
Diógenes y el Linyera - Comic strip with more than 9000 editions on the back cover of the Clarín newspaper ( Buenos Aires city ), published without interruption since 1977. It was created by Tabaré, Jorge Guinzburg and Carlos Abrevaya . The last two wrote the scripts until 1993. The scriptwriter from 1996 to 2006 was Héctor García Blanco . From that moment on, Tabaré took charge of the scripts.
