Biography
Mazyar Bijani was born in 1972 in Babol, Iran. He is a graduate of Imam Sadiq University and holds a Master's degree in Art awarded by the Iranian Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance.
Most of his artistic work is dedicated to caricature and editorial cartooning. Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous group exhibitions and has held several solo exhibitions. He also worked as the staff cartoonist for the Kayhan newspaper for ten years.
A collection of 50 of Bijani's political cartoons, offering a satirical critique of the Green Movement following Iran's 2009 presidential election, was published. An expanded edition of this collection was later released under the title The Velvet Green Movement by the Khakriz-e Iman va Andisheh Cultural Institute in a print run of 2,000 copies.
He also published his Holocaust Caricatures book in Persian, Arabic, and English. Another of his major artistic achievements is illustrating the book The Pleasant History of America (Tarikh-e Mostatab-e Amrika).
From 2011 to 2017, Bijani served as Editor-in-Chief of the biweekly satirical magazine Keshideh. He was also the Publisher and Managing Director of the monthly humor and cartoon magazine Bozangah.
Throughout his career, Bijani has received numerous awards, including First Prize in the "Pen Against Cultural Invasion" Cartoon Competition at the Tehran International Book Fair (1995), First Prize in the Cartoon Competition on the Theme of Film at the Iranian Press Festival (1996), the Special Prize at the Iranian Press Festival Cartoon Competition (1997), Third Prize and a Certificate of Merit at the Conference on the Pathology of the Islamic Revolution, a Certificate of Merit at the Second Conference of Writers and Artists of the Islamic Revolution and the Sacred Defense (1999), and a Certificate of Merit at the Intifada Cartoon Competition held during the Tehran-Palestine Solidarity Conference (2000).
