Rainer Ehrt spent his childhood and youth in the Harz Mountains. He attended the EOS "Gerhart Hauptmann" in Wernigerode, today the Landesgymnasium für Musik des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt.
After graduation from high school and in the army, two semesters studied industrial design at the castle Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle. The subsequent exchange of art on the subject of visual art was preceded by a self-chosen internship year as a printing worker in Halle (Saale) and Leipzig, where he laid the foundation for his later work. From 1983 to 1988 he studied graphic design at the castle Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle (Saale). Rainer Ehrt graduated in 1988 with Gerhard Voigt and Rainer Schade.
While studying, he developed a special passion for satirical-critical graphics, book art and illustration. Since 1984 he has been married to the designer and sculptor Julia Ehrt, nee Kretzschmar, and is based in Kleinmachnow near Berlin.
Rainer Ehrt began as a graphic designer, illustrator and poster designer on behalf of the Hans Otto Theater Potsdam, the Progreens Filmverleih and various Berlin publishing houses. At the same time he used the free graphics in the original graphic techniques etching, serigraphy and woodcut, and in 1993 founded the edition Ehrt for original graphic bibliophile artist books.
He published the satirical picture book "Preubisches Panoptikum" in the Espresso Verlag 2001 and "Mozart 2006" in the Kunstverlag Weingarten in addition to the 13 original graphic artist books. He is also involved in numerous cartoon books and anthologies.
