Doru Axinte was born on 1962 in Falticeni –Romania. Currently, he is working as a freelance artist concentrated mainly to cartoons and satirical graphic
His artworks is presented at individual and collective exhibitions. He participated at a number of international cartoon competitions and his cartoons were awarded with prestigious prizes .
What was your first satirical cartoon?
My first satirical cartoon , when I was 9-10 years old and I published in a school magazine about a child that copy math test from a geography book .
When did you start your professional working?
Beginning professional working was much later, after 1990, when I met very known cartoonists from my country and satirical publications have diversified.
What was your first published artwork?
My first drawing was published in the military press in the early 90s, when I started with soldierly humor and my characters were considered as originals and funny.
What was your first prize?
First prize was a national award at the Festival of a military humor, in 1991, called,, Lies Bridge ", where I obtained First Prize. He was a contest of caricature and aphorism.
What was your last prize?
My latest awards I have received this year and were : Bronze Award (Strumica-Macedonia); Second prize (Theme Gallipoli War-Turkey); Prize of the EU (Kruishoutem-Belgium); Special award (Amasya, Turkey).
How do you find new ideas?
New ideas exist for each cartoonist and waiting to be discovered. For me personally, ideas are suggested from themes of humor salons . Also, general ideas come from everyday life, from politics, popular culture of each country.
Whats your idea about Inevitable Similarities?
The similarities inevitable worries me permanently. I also had disappointment and regret that they are unavoidable. I think a large volume of information, pictures, cartoons, things that invade our minds, we subliminal influences. Also, certain topics generate unwanted similarities just by their uniqueness, for example,, Mona Lisa "Noah's arch,,",, Dove of Peace ",, Beggar" Facebook logo (...)
What do you think about plagiarism?
Plagiarism is something else. It is an ugly thing for artists who are crisis of inspiration. It's worse when you introduce yourself with plagiarism at international exhibitions and you're a fool if you think you will not be discovered. Therefore, international juries should have a more active role. The border between similarity and plagiarism is very close and the disappointments are very highs. Before creating a cartoon, I study (as time allows me) catalogs, albums, web-sites, to prevent any suspicion of similarity. Plagiarism, never.
Do you think who is the best Iranian Cartoonist?
I very much appreciate the Iranian school of cartoon. I like the original styles of artists: Alireza Pakdel, Rahim Baghal Asghari, Massoud Tabatabai Shojai, Kambiz Derambakhsh.
Who is the best Cartoonist in your country?
Romanian cartoonists are highly appreciated and belong to different generations. I think many fellow cartoonists would like to mention here, so worth it. I want to emphasize however Cristian Topan, Pavel Constantin, Mihai Ignat, Pavel Botezatu, Mihai Boaca. From the new generation, is a young and talented cartoonist woman Nicoleta Ionescu .
Do you think who is the best foreign cartoonist?
I very much appreciate works signed Andrei Popov, Ares, Angel Boligan, Elena Ospina.
What's the best cartoon that you've ever seen?
It is one of the works of the regretted Ronald Searle.
How much time do you pay for creating an artwork?
It depends on the complexity. I dedicate 2-3 hours a drawing and all night for inspiration.
What are your tools and technique for creating artwork?
My favorite technique (and used) is watercolor & indian ink. I think that adapts simple ideas that we put on paper.
Which software do you use?
To the disappointment of those who read this interview, I do not use software techniques . I have great respect for those who use computer graphics, but personally, I'm not attracted to it.
What's your recommendation to your colleagues?
My recommendation is to be as original and reach performance that their work be recognized easily without being signed.
What do you think about cartoon situation in the world?
Cartoon world situation is in constant transformation. Influences are economic, political and cultural. I think so modern society make cartoonist in a fighter.
Did you ever had problems with your cartoons?
My drawings have never caused problems. In general, I am a person who does not create problems.
What was your best cartoon?
Again, a difficult question, which testing my modesty. It is an award-winning cartoon in Zagreb (Croatia) which shows that inventions leaves us without jobs.
Have you ever created an immediate Cartoon?
Yes, I had this challenge. When unexpected events have occurred in the world, I reacted and I created cartoons in a gesture of solidarity.
Have you ever been jury member in any Cartoon Contest?
As a jury member I participated in international exhibitions in Iran (Tabriz-2012) and Turkey (Istanbul 2014-Nasreddin Hodja)
What about Caricature?
,,Caricature is done with precision of surgeon and with intentions of executioner."
Have you ever worked in cooperation with another artist?
I not had this opportunity. But if I will have in the future I will not refuse.
What's your idea about Irancartoon website?
Irancartoon is the website that I access daily. It's a real important database for me which gives me a complete picture about what happens in cartoon world.
If you were born again what did you choose as your career?
I think satirical graphics is a way of expressing a spirit current, independent. I look forward to be born again.
Do you think whats the boarder between Cartoon and Caricature?
Cartoon and caricature - a dilemma that preocupa me. I appreciate artists who have mastered the two areas. A border exist, because the caricature stops at the portrait and cartoon is limitless.
Beyond the cartoon is the interpretation of each of us .
What and when was your last exhibition?
My last solo exhibition was held in March 2013 in Bucharest-Romania.
What's your description about cartoon?
Inspiration, humor, love for people.
Do you think an artist can have enough money by creating cartoon and caricature?
It is a myth. But the myths are exceptions.
Who's your favorite artist except in cartoon world?
Andy Warhol, artistic personality of current known as Pop Art
What was the last book you've read?
,,The Master & Margarita" (Mihail Bulgakov)
Do you think humor can be learned?
No. With humor you were born. You learn only how to express it.
What's your idea about Black Humor?
Black humor is a subtle form that can not be created by anyone. Is extremely humor, well targeted, that makes you meditate every tear that there is hope. I do not appreciate the ironies about human infirmities.

These days I work to cartoon competitions with deadline in August and September. I hope to have enough inspiration and strength for finalize my projects .
