Steve Caldwell - UK
Steve Caldwell is a contemporary portrait and figurative artist.
He has exhibited twice in the prestigious BP Portrait Award at The National Portrait Gallery in London and shows regularly with The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
He is also a triple prize winner in The RBSA Portrait Prize.
Using his training as a medical artist, Caldwell paints meticulous and intimate works using detail and texture to reinforce the identity and reality of the sitter.
Caldwell's work is influenced by a love of the paintings of Degas, Holbein, Andrew Wyeth, John Singer Sargent and Chuck Close.
He creates decidedly contemporary paintings which affectionately acknowledge the history of classical portraiture.
