Bill Carman, who has a background in visual communications as well as painting, is known for his illustrations for CD covers, magazines, posters, and children’s books. He considers his paintings as narrative extensions of his own memories and of his dark humor.
In his words, the characters that populate his paintings “should probably never have been born.
Carman is also interested in using the painted surface as a means of exploring textures, and often incorporates assemblages of wood, metal, paper, and found materials in his compositions.
He cites Hieronymus Bosch who he admires for his precision and his darkly fantastical imagery as his biggest influence.
