Interview with Muhittin Koroglu/Turkey

Why cartoon?
No other areas of art can be as influential as cartoon to convey
the message.

What was your first cartoon to be published?
There was one in a magazine called “Agbaba” in 1976.
It is no longer published, but was an important one at the time.

Which cartoonists’ styles have you been inspired by?
I have never been inspired by any. Basically,
in either of the two following ways you can be inspired
you can either be inspired by someone and your works are like theirs,
or be inspired but find your own way and style.

Who do you think the best Iranian cartoonist is?
It’s a very difficult question to answer. It’s not fair to name only one. Iranian cartoonists are at the top of the tree in the cartoon world. For example, when Javad Alizadeh won a prize in Nasreddin Hoca, you probably not born yet.

What’s the best prize you’ve ever won?
The first prize I won in Nasredin Hoca Cartoon Festival
has always been very important to me. I never enter cartoon contests just to win prizes. In fact, I do it to convey my message and the best way to do so is to enter cartoon contests.
