Aristides Esteban
Hernandez Guerrero (Ares)

Before his visiting Tehran I gathered from his letters thet behind
a veil of Kindness and excessive economy in use of words, a mountain
of naughtiness and unrest was lurking. I had guessed righ.
He had a lot to say. But regewtfully he cold not speak Farsi!
Laughingly he would say: “It seems to me that we
can communicate on the paper only.”

“A man has arrived from Cuba,” was the only
sentence which he would utter in Farsi with a thick Cuba accent.

Although known as a cartoonist. He is kind! I noted such deep affection
when he joyfully showed the pictures of his cartoons which often display heartless figures,
I should have imagined to face a ruthless man constantly engaged in analyzing his cartoons.

Voltaire believes that “work” relieves man from three big calamities:
depression. Fornication and need. He knows better than
Voltaire that to be a cartoonist is to give one an opportunity to
hurl politicians in to three perils: cartoon, cartoon and cartoon!
This is not my own saying, it is what his cartoons say.

He looks at events and  subjects from another angle,
as if he possesses a third eye which he uses merely for sketching.
His ideas too have always surprised me.
In short he does not resemble anybody else.

He thus describes the secret of his third eye:
“As mere cartoonist I would have looked at the world with a single eye,
but being a psychiatrist has given me the power
and luck to look and understand people from other angles.”

Yes, he is a psychiatrist and this profession has helped him to give
further depth and color to his opinions. In other words,
throughout the day he is always dealing with his
patients both in Garcia Hospital or his atelier!

He him self believes to be a good – humored and witty
man who is also a doctor and is a doctor
 who prescribes laughter and joke.

The artist is moving towards accumulation of such a fame
which seldom an artist or perhaps a psychiatrist imagines to attain.
The cartoonist has excessive ambition to create rare and biting subjects
with exceptional techniques which is one of the features of his
work – at a time that clash of tastes among the organizers of international
cartoon exhibitions and festivals has gradually led
cartoonists to wards momentary and even native jokes.

Opina magazine was the first publication which had the honor to print his first work
in 1984 upon the recommendation of one of his friends. When he was
attending the third year of his medical studies, to receive a suitable
compensation. But later on he discovered that his cartoons
were more than a source of income for him.

A rapid review of his works shows that in lees than 15 years
of incessant work in the field of cartoon, the artist has taken big steps
to wards progress and is rapidly over taking his colleagues.
With such a back ground, it is not surprising to hear that, ten years
after the printing of his first work, according  to statistics published by
lovers of his cartoons and sketches, he was chosen as the best cartoonist
in the world by the Witty World and the best cartoonist the best
cartoonist in the twentieth century in the book called Memory Project.

So far in his biography the artist has registered many successes
and has bagged many prestigious a wards from various competitions
in Cuba and other countries of the world in designing and directing
short animation films. Acting as referee at several satirical
competitions, designing posters and images for children’s books, etc.

Also this well – Known Cuban artist has
so far published the following four books:
Entrar Por Elaro – 1989, published in  Cuba.
Cuba Gon Humor – 1995, published in Brazil.
Humor Pezo Ares – 1996, published in Brazil.
Gente De Meio Tom – 1996, published in Brazil.

Undoubtedly he can record his name among long established and famous
international designers and sty lists such as Steinberg. Topor, Bosc,
Steadman and several others who have long since been considered as models for cartoonist.

I speak about ARES who is 36 years old. Take him psychiatirst or cartoonist, it is to you!
